President: Sophia Mir
Sophia is a junior majoring in Zoology with a minor in Animal Science at NC State University. She is from Clayton, North Carolina located about thirty minutes outside of Raleigh. Currently, she is working as a research technician at Powered Research, a preclinical contract research organization specializing in ophthalmology. At NC State, Sophia spends a lot of time volunteering at the NC State Dairy Farm and with the Turtle Rescue Team at the NCSU CVM. Additionally, Sophia is a teaching assistant for the course Critical and Creative Thinking in the Life Sciences (LSC 101) and a University Ambassador. In her free time, Sophia enjoys going to the gym, playing tennis, and attending many NC State sporting events! Sophia's veterinary interests include small animal medicine and food animal veterinary medicine. She is very excited to be representing PVMA as the 2023-2024 President and is looking forward to a great year!

Vice President: Brooke Hudson
Brooke is a senior majoring in Animal Science on a veterinary bioscience track with a minor in History. She is from Denver, NC located an hour outside of Charlotte. Brooke works as a veterinary technician at the NCSU Terry Hospital. Brooke is also a research assistant at the NCSU CVM Radiation Oncology department, an avid volunteer with Operation Catnip, and a Peer Mentoring Program Mentor. In her free time Brooke enjoys snuggling her Siamese cat, Milo, going to the gym, spending time outdoors, and cheering on the NCSU football team! Brooke’s special interests include emergency small animal medicine, small animal surgery, and farm animal medicine.

Secretary: Hannah Jewett
Hannah is a junior transfer student majoring in Animal Science with a Veterinary Bioscience concentration and Biology with an Integrative Physiology and Neurobiology concentration. She is from Fort Lauderdale, FL, and moved to Pittsboro, NC last year. Hannah has previously worked as an EMT, works as a veterinary assistant, has been a teaching assistant for ANS 206, and will be a TA for ANS 205 this semester. In her free time, Hannah enjoys hanging out with her puppy, Macie, and spending time in nature. Hannah’s veterinary interests include companion animal medicine, zoo and wildlife medicine, and animal behavior.

Treasurer: Jules Herzog
Jules is a senior majoring in Animal Science with a concentration in Veterinary Bioscience. She is originally from Reidsville, NC, but spent her time growing up mostly in Denver, NC. Jules has previously enjoyed her time working in a general practice hospital, emergency medicine hospital, interning at a local zoo, and shadowing in the ophthalmology department at NCSU CVM. She currently works as a research technician at Powered Research, conducting ophthalmological studies. This fall, you will be able to find Jules at the Gilger Labs at NCSU CVM assisting with an ophthalmological pilot study. Through these experiences, Jules has a career interest in mixed animal ophthalmology and emergency medicine. During her small amount of free time, Jules enjoys kayaking, baking, or having lazy days with her cat, Jacky. She looks forward to representing PVMA as Treasurer for the 2023-2024 school year, and can’t wait to meet all the new members!

Emma is a junior majoring in Animal Science with a Veterinary Bioscience concentration and minoring in Nutrition. Emma has enjoyed her summer working as a veterinary technician at a small animal emergency hospital in Charlotte, NC. During the school year, she works at a large animal, equine focused, ambulatory veterinary practice. In addition to clinical experiences, Emma is currently an ongoing research assistant in the Clinical Pathology lab within the NCSU CVM assisting with studies identifying neoplastic cells. This upcoming school year she will use her leadership skills and serve as a VetPAC Intern. These experiences have allowed Emma to determine her passion for companion animal emergency medicine along with orthopedic surgery. Emma also serves as the External Philanthropy chairman for a greek student organization on campus. In her free time, Emma enjoys being active outside, traveling, and spending time with friends.

Fundraising Chair: Lauren Johnson
Lauren is a Junior majoring in Animal Science on the pre-veterinary bioscience track. She is from Greensboro, North Carolina. Lauren is currently a veterinary assistant at Crossroads Veterinary Hospital in Cary, NC and a research assistant at the Duke Lemur Center located 5 minutes from Duke university! Lauren is also a volunteer at the “Be Wild” exotic center located in Durham, NC assisting in the hospitality and care of snakes, turtles, owls, geckos, and more. And finally, for the past two years, Lauren has been an ongoing research assistant with graduate students studying sheep and goat! Aside from veterinary medicine, Lauren enjoys being outside, cooking yummy meals, and playing on the intramural soccer team at NCSU. Lauren’s veterinary interests include small animal emergencies as well as mixed animal practice.
Service Chair: Amber Hall
Amber is a junior majoring in Animal Science with minors in Food Science and Music. She is from Holly Springs, North Carolina. This past summer, Amber went on a study abroad studying animal physiology and behavior at Harper Adams University in England. Here she gained veterinary experience working with a variety of species, including horses, dairy cows, pigs, gerbils, rats, and dogs. Currently, she is on the Treatment and Husbandry Team at the Turtle Rescue Team located at NC State’s DVM. She also is a turtle rehabber and enjoys releasing the healthy turtles back into their homes. Amber is also a research volunteer helping collect data studying different diets in swine at the Nutrition Barn and Swine Education Unit. Aside from veterinary medicine, Amber enjoys spending time with her family, swimming, board games, and playing the piano. Amber’s veterinary interests right now include large animal medicine with a focus on equine.

Agri-Life Representative: Madelyn Young
Madelyn is a junior majoring in Zoology with minors in Animal Science and Sports Science at NC State. She is from Greensboro, North Carolina. In high school and when she is home from college she volunteers at the Greensboro Science Center which is an accredited zoo and aquarium. At GSC she helps prepare diets, assists with husbandry and talks to visitors. She also works at a small animal veterinary clinic when she is home. She recently has started volunteering at Operation CatNip and absolutely loves it. She is an employee at the Turkey Unit and will be a teaching assistant for Biology 181 with Doctor Ferzli in the fall. Currently she is interning at an NCDA and Nc State research farm working with pigs. She spent two weeks this summer in Thailand for an animal science study abroad centered around elephants and dogs. In her free time she loves going to the gym and going out to eat with friends. Her goal is to pursue a masters in animal science and then go to vet school to become a mixed practice veterinarian for livestock and exotics.
Agri-Life Representative: Kara Vold
Kara Vold is a sophomore majoring in Biology with a concentration in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation. She is minoring in Microbiology and Creative Writing. She is from Raleigh, North Carolina. She currently works as a small animal emergency veterinary nurse. She is very active in the feline rescue community, and is dedicated to Purr Partners Feline rescue as a foster, volunteer, and TNR trapper. She loves spending time with her pets (two dogs, two cats, two quail, a finch, a snake, a gecko, and cherry shrimp), riding horses, hiking, archery, and longsword fencing. She is looking to pursue a career focused on wildlife conservation and/or exotics. She also has interest in feline infectious disease and loves working in the emergency medicine setting. She has experience working with a wide variety of dogs, cats, livestock, and various exotics.

Webmaster: Kat White
Kat is a junior majoring in Animal Science with a concentration in Veterinary Bioscience at NC State University. She is from Raeford, North Carolina located about an hour outside of Raleigh. Currently she is working as a hospital assistant at Southern Oaks Animal Hospital, as well as a barista at Starbucks. Additionally, for the upcoming fall semester, Kat will be a teaching assistant for the course Introduction to Animal Science Lab (ANS 151) and a veterinary assistant in the ICU at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine. In her free time Kat enjoys watching movies with her pet dachshund and going out to eat with friends. Kat’s veterinary interests include small animal medicine and emergency care.
